1 teaspoon salt
2 cups granulated sugar
1 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 large eggs

1 cup boiling water
1 can cherry pie filling
2 cups heavy cream

1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Chocolate shavings, for garnish
Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
In a medium bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
In a separate large bowl, whisk together the sugar, buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined.

Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove from the pans and cool completely on wire racks.
Once the cakes are cool, use a serrated knife to level off the tops of the cakes.
Place one cake layer on a cake plate or stand, and spread the cherry pie filling evenly over the top.
Place the second cake layer on top of the cherry filling.
In a large bowl, beat the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
Spread the whipped cream frosting evenly over the top and sides of the cake.
Garnish with chocolate shavings.
Chill the cake in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour before serving.
