Chocolate croissants, also known as pain au chocolat, are a beloved French pastry that has become popular all over the world. These flaky, buttery pastries are filled with rich, gooey chocolate and make the perfect breakfast treat or afternoon snack. Whether enjoyed on their own or paired with a cup of coffee, chocolate croissants are sure to satisfy any sweet tooth.
And here’s a recipe for Chocolate Croissants:
Ingredients:
1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
4 oz. bittersweet chocolate, chopped
1 large egg
1 tablespoon milk
Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)
Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 375°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry into a large rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick.
Cut the pastry into 6 equal rectangles.
Place a heaping tablespoon of chopped chocolate in the center of each rectangle.
Starting at one end, roll up each rectangle tightly around the chocolate, tucking in the sides to create a crescent shape.
Place the croissants on the prepared baking sheet, seam-side down.
In a small bowl, beat together the egg and milk to create an egg wash.
Brush the egg wash over the croissants.
Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the croissants are golden brown and puffed.
Let the croissants cool for a few minutes before dusting with powdered sugar, if desired.
Serve warm and enjoy!
Note: You can also freeze the unbaked croissants and bake them later. To do this, place the rolled croissants on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and freeze until solid. Once frozen, transfer the croissants to a freezer bag and store for up to 2 weeks. When ready to bake, brush with the egg wash and bake as directed, adding a few extra minutes to the baking time.
